I would like to begin by thanking my predecessor, Fritz Kern, for the role he played during his tenure of office. I plan to continue in the same manner in order to pursue and achieve the objectives of the organisation.
We have successfully completed the long awaited Hydraulics & Pneumatic Market Survey. This was undertaken by the Tshwane University of Technology to ensure complete impartiality and confidentiality. All the participating companies received a detailed report of the survey.
SAFPA intends to do a follow up survey in the near future and requests have been made that the next survey should be more detailed. We trust that we can rely on all involved in the Fluid Power Industry for their support.
One of our objectives at SAFPA is to raise the professional standards of the Fluid Power Industry and to see that our members act in accordance with the SAFPA Code of Ethics. Consider this definition: "A code of ethics is a specific set of rules and behaviours defined by moral values. They are guidelines which govern the day-to-day activities of an organisation."
The key is that this code is only a guideline, and therefore, merely having such a code of conduct is not enough. It can only be effective and practically useful with committed dissemination, implementation, monitoring and embedding at all levels so that behaviour is influenced.
Please find the SAFPA Code of Ethics on the website at www.safpa.org.za
Another of the organisation's objectives is to promote education, skills development and training. The Assessors Course, inaugurated last year, is just one of the steps we are taking to achieve this. The course was an enormous success and so far we have received 14 requests from industry members requesting to be trained as assessors. The next course is planned to take place within the next month or two.
To increase networking amongst SAFPA's members and promote networking opportunities, we would like to ask our members to support the social functions and technical meetings. Networking can help improve business performance, product and staff skills. Networks can also be a key source of information and support where ideas of common interest can be compared and discussed.
Therefore, please make a note of the SAFPA Dinner Dance, which is to take place at the Old Edwardian Club on Friday, 28 September 2007. This is an ideal opportunity to meet and interact with fellow industry members.
We would welcome any ideas or suggestions from our members on how to improve our service to the industry.
