As I start to pen what will be the last President’s letter for 2024, I am reminded of how quickly this year has gone by. It has been a watershed year for South African politics with the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU). Positively. Since the formation of the new governing party, South Africans and businesses have enjoyed a stable electricity supply and lower inflation. There is, however, a long way to go, and the upcoming Midterm Budget Policy statement will draw lots of attention, and with it the hopes that government will cut spending, reduce the deficit, and achieve a better credit rating.
As usual, it has been a busy period at SAFPA. The golf and soccer days were both a great success from an attendance and organisational perspective. Bosch Rexroth won the golf day and Rand Building Hydraulics was the runner up. The soccer final was fiercely contested by Honingcraft and Hansa-Flex, with the latter prevailing and being crowned 2024 champions.
A technical meeting was held on 1 November 2024 with the topic being ‘Compressed air vs electric automation’.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our SAFPA members and other readers a safe and enjoyable festive season.
