Hollow output shaft speed reducers
3rd Quarter 2013

BMG has extended its range of Varvel right-angled worm and in-line helical geared products to include a new series of hollow output shaft speed reducers.
“This new range enables BMG to offer customised power transmission solutions to users of gearboxes in diverse sectors. Typical applications of Varvel speed reducers include pumps, mixers, conveyors and cranes,” says Bryan Pickles, BMG’s Varvel brand manager. “The Varvel range is designed for flexibility, interchangeability with other leading gearboxes, easy mounting and quick lead times. An important feature is that each system can be custom designed for specific requirements.”
Each size unit in this new series is designed with a common base body. Three different speed reducer lines can be constructed by simply fitting the appropriate input module. These modules include RN shaft mount, RO horizontal and RV vertical input bevel/helical units.
Varvel speed reducers are available in six sizes, with 30 reduction ratios in two and three stages and output torques from 180 Nm to 3200 Nm. The smallest three units in the range are aluminium pressure die cast and the larger ones are grey manufactured from cast iron.
Multiple foot, flange, or torque arm mountings are available, as well as hollow output shafts – keyed, shrink disk or splined. These mountings can be delivered solid, simple or double sided. The same fixing footprint is designed for all three versions.
Modular Varvel products are also available in a kit form, fully compatible with the full range of Varvel gearboxes. This flexibility enables the quick assembly of custom-designed systems, without the need for special tooling.
