At a recent SAFPA technical webinar, Izak Lombaard, project engineer at Hydac Technology, gave an interesting talk on IIoT. He took participants through the various industrial revolutions and the four levels of a manufacturing plant, with the focus on the benefits of IIoT technologies such as M2M communications, big data, edge and cloud computing, machine learning and the intersection of IT and OT. He also described a typical application implemented by Hydac where an IIoT gateway was installed in a FAM vacuum dewatering and oil filltration unit that is part of their rental fleet. This was followed by an interesting discussion.
