The winning team from Tokai University
Teams had to build their own cars, design their own engineering systems and race their vehicles through some of the most demanding terrain that solar cars have ever seen.
Finishing at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria, the sleek, solar powered Tokai Challenger completed a total of 4061 km with elevation differences of 1700 metres in what is billed as the most gruelling solar race on the international calendar.
The race was organised to emphasise the benefits of environmentally friendly technologies and to give engineering students in a wide range of disciplines the opportunity to gain valuable technical knowledge and experience.
