FX keyless bushings are the newest addition to SKF’s power transmission family. The comprehensive line of keyless bushings provides innovative alternatives to traditional component-to-shaft connections.
The bushings create an interference fit with uniform pressure distribution and provide complete axial and radial adjustability along with simple installation and removal. SKF’s contention is that this design offers true zero backlash installation and suffers from none of the problems associated with keyways and splines. The bushings provide the ability to mount simply bored components to standard plain shafting and can be mounted over existing keyways if needed. Lower costs are achieved for both bushing and shaft assembly since no keyways need to be cut.
The operating principle of the keyless bushing is based on a simple double wedge system. As a series of screws or a single hexagon nut is tightened, circular steel rings with mating tapers are wedged together creating a radial force, which expands one ring into the component bore while the other contracts onto the shaft.
