Sponsors sought for SA Robotics Championship

Third Quarter 2008 News & events

F’SATIE (French South African Institute in Electronics) at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is looking for sponsors for the SA FIRST LEGO League (FLL) championships for middle school learners to be held in Johannesburg in November 2008.

F’SATIE at TUT is the South African operational partner for FIRST LEGO League International. The FLL challenge is an international LEGO Robotics competition for middle school learners in which over 100 000 youngsters from more than 45 countries participate.

An important aspect of the FLL initiative is that it starts in early school years – early enough to excite an interest in maths and science which can influence learner’s subject choices and facilitate their entry into science and engineering faculties for tertiary education.

Between 200 and 300 learners from teams throughout South Africa will compete in the 2008 Climate Connection Challenge finals to be held at Sci Bono, Johannesburg, on 29 November. To enable the organisers to host a high-profile first class tournament they are looking for help with judging and to cover event expenses of R80 000.

Expenses are made up of trophies and medals, official competition tables, food and beverage, T-shirts, master of ceremonies DJ, and marketing.

Sponsorship packages are available from R5000 to R15 000 and sponsors will receive:

* Prominent FLL website exposure on the FLL SA website.

* Marketing exposure through team information packs.

* A tax certificate from Tshwane University of Technology.
