Festo Didactic has added another course - Principles of Industrial Measurement, Control and Instrumentation Part 1 - to its South African curriculum. The new course is aimed at artisans, learner artisans, operators, foremen, technicians, draughtsmen and engineers in all sectors of industry.
The three-day course will initially only be held in Johannesburg and will be offered each month from June to December this year.
Target industry sectors include food and beverage and manufacturing which are increasingly employing sophisticated instruments. Process control is a unique part of the industry that deals with the control of variables that influence materials and equipment during the development or manufacture of a product.
The course will cover both theory and practice and include material such as basic electrical principles, identification and measurement of analogue and digital signals, process variables, process sensors, measurement principles, control valves, and open and closed loop systems. Participants will work 'hands on' with some of the actual instruments used in industry and participate in practical exercises to experience and understand the different measurement principles.
Advanced courses are planned for the second half of this year.
