Elquip Solutions wins contract for Robor's Chamdor plant relocation

Third Quarter 2006 News & events

Elquip Solutions, a leading importer and distributor of high-end automation products and capital equipment in South Africa, has recently been commissioned to undertake the task of decommissioning and then re-establishing the electrical network for Robor's stainless steel tube manufacturing facility. The company will play a role in the relocation that will modernise and make the manufacturing facility one of the most efficient in the country.

"We are very pleased to have been requested to assist with the Robor facility's relocation from the current Chamdor site to the main facility in Germiston," says Mike Cronin, managing director of Elquip Solutions. He points out that they are aware of the high operational standards required by a client like Robor and adds that they have worked on a multiphased approach to ensure that the production line continues to function with minimal disruption to its customers.

Johan Scholtz, Robor's technical director, comments: "Elquip Solutions was our choice for this project, based on a number of considerations. These include the fact that their long-term involvement in, and service to, the tube and pipe industry has given them a thorough understanding of the processes, challenges and requirements inherent in an undertaking of this scale."

Mike Cronin explains that Elquip Solutions will be involved in the relocation process from the very beginning. The machines at the existing site will be decommissioned and then their re-commissioning overseen once these have been delivered at the new site. However, when the equipment is re-commissioned, the necessary modifications and improvements that will make this plant a state-of-the-art facility and one of the biggest of its kind in the country, will also be put in place. This modernisation process will bring numerous benefits to the new plant, such as a reduction in running costs and improvements in energy efficiency, building future capacity, and creating a system that is more user-friendly.

"What differentiates Equip Solutions' service in our eyes, is that they are entrenched in the industry; and provide world-class products and expertise. This is backed by a proactive, outcomes-based attitude that prioritises our needs and challenges," Scholtz concludes.

Cronin states in conclusion: "A project of this size and complexity is a fantastic opportunity for the Elquip Solutions team to implement both the world-class equipment that we supply, and the lateral thinking and flexibility which we pride ourselves on."
