SA lubrication for Ghana gold mine
Second Quarter 2005
News & events
Johannesburg-based Operational Marketing recently supplied FFE Minerals in Ghana with complete Delimon centralised lubrication and oil circulation systems for the world's largest mill at the Tarkwa gold mining plant.
The systems installed on the mill comprise: hydrostatic trunnion bearings; Toshiba dual motor drive hydrodynamic bearings; Flender gearboxes with oil circulation systems and a girth gear grease spray system. Water cooling towers were also offered as a complete package.
Xen Papastamopoulos, divisional manager for Operational Marketing, said: "Apart from export orders, local gold mines, such as Great Noligwa, are also upgrading. The mine had in the past relied on their numerous small mills for production, which require excessive maintenance and manual labour, now being replaced with larger, more efficient mills."
He continued: "Pressure on the mine shaft to deliver more ore to the surface, adds strain to the ropes, which were previously manually lubricated making them not only slow to function but also messy. This has now been automated with the installation of our company's winder steel rope grease spray system, which automatically lubricates ropes with special rope-dressing grease during normal hoist cycles. This system also extends the life of the ropes by eliminating wear and rust on the rope cores."
Operational Marketing have now been contracted to supply an additional lubrication system to FFE Minerals, for the second mill, currently under construction.
