Happy new year to all! I trust that all our readers had a happy festive season and are ready to tackle the challenges of 2015.
One of the most important attributes in life is a sound ethical ethos. A prerequisite for membership of SAFPA is the acceptance and signing of the code of conduct, which each member undertakes to adhere to in his or her business ventures. This ensures that the SAFPA business community is held to a high moral standard and any business venture between SAFPA member companies is executed with the highest integrity.
SAFPA is also a member association of the Engineering Council of South Africa. This allows SAFPA to be represented at the highest level with respect to engineering. All SAFPA’s technical meetings carry CPD points, which is pertinent to any engineer who wishes to become a registered professional engineer, or Pr. Eng. engineer wishing to maintain his or her professional status. SAFPA is also looking at the possibility of developing a mentorship programme that will assist young engineers who wish to attain their Pr. Eng. registration.
Education is one of the most important areas that should be addressed in a developing country and South Africa is no exception. SAFPA has always had a significant vested interest in education. This emphasis on education within SAFPA has led us to consider new and exciting educational avenues. Due to the impending changes governing educational structures, we are required to look at formalising certain aspects of our educational portfolio. This specifically pertains to the NQF2 to NQF5 qualifications. These developments will be discussed with industry in the near future.
SAFPA is also involved in a number of other projects which have an influence in industry. These include but are not limited to an ongoing involvement with SABS in respect of relevant standards. We keep abreast of international fluid power trends through our relationship with international fluid power associations. On the social level, SAFPA will host a number of functions, namely the annual dinner, golf, soccer and cycling events as well as a host of technical meetings. These functions give industry members an opportunity to network and help to grow the SAFPA community.
May your 2015 be a prosperous and happy year!
Regards,Eugene.
