2011 has arrived at the speed of white light. The holiday season has come and gone far too quickly and the business steam train has shunted our seaside memories aside, replacing them with deadline driven RFQs, lead-time issues for imported goods, design and implementation. Compounding this overdose of pressures we also have to deal with national and international weather extremes (besides the flooding – it snowed in Australia in December), Johannesburg billing crises, ongoing road works, the impending toll gate system, and the local election battles. I think it is going to be an interesting year.
Website and membership
SAFPA has updated its website. It is now simpler, better, faster! Have a look and surf around to your heart’s content. For those wishing to complete the Hose Accreditation Audit, remember that everything you require is on the website for downloading. A list of all SAFPA’s members is on the website and we are proud to declare that we have signed up our 100th member, David Brown.
Technical meetings
At the time of writing this letter the SAFPA council had not yet met for the first meeting of 2011 so there is little light I can shed on technical meetings for the near future. However I can whet the appetite with suggestions that were discussed towards the end of 2010: hoses and predictions for the market going forward; the art and science of filtration; applications of pneumatics. Please watch the SAFPA website for dates and details. For many years now these meetings have been held at the Hudaco building, but this venue will soon change hands. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to Hudaco and in turn to Ernest Lowe for their hospitality over the last few years.
Training courses
Now that we are fully paid up with our British counterparts for their safety training course on hose assemblies, it is merely a question of time before we start rolling out the courses. Again, keep an eye on our website for dates and venues.
Roll on 2011.
Regards,
Norman Hall
