Hydrasales turns 30

1st Quarter 2009 Hydraulic systems & components

This year Hydrasales celebrates 30 years of growth, development and innovation. This South African distributor of hydraulic filtration and accessories has withstood the test of time and is proud of its achievements and growth.

Elvira Caripis, general manager, reminisces about Hydrasales’ humble beginnings. She vividly remembers a small shop with no store space, no meeting room or separate offices. “Everyone sat jumbled on top of one another,” she says.

The company has become a specialist filtration solution provider by expanding its filter body range and element or cartridge range to meet more demanding pressure and mobile system requirements. Managing member Haroun Pochee says that Hydrasales studied the needs of an increasingly sophisticated local manufacturing market and decided to provide solutions in the construction, mining and mobile equipment sectors of the hydraulic industry. The company represents leading international brand, MP Filtri, in Africa and has an established distribution network to reach its markets.

Both Caripis and Pochee believe that the well established team, commitment to service, development and innovation drives the company forward. The support and co-operation from all tiers of staff bear testimony to a team bent on meeting its customers’ needs. There are members of the team who have long service records. In August 2008, Cynthia Kemeni and Simon Mahlangu celebrated 20 years with Hydrasales.

‘Oubaas’ Reg Pretorius, a veteran of the South African hydraulics industry, has been instrumental in training and customer support and his vast experience has helped new entrants into the market and new members of the Hydrasales team. Enrico Brown (Cape Town) and Emeralda Els (Johannesburg) have greatly benefitted from Reg’s experience.

Hydrasales is looking forward to celebrating 50 years of greater growth, development and innovation!

Many happy returns to a team of spirited and dedicated players!!

How to protect against water hammer
SA Gauge Editor's Choice Hydraulic systems & components
Water hammer is a high-pressure surge or wave created by the kinetic energy of moving fluid when it is rapidly forced to stop or change direction, altering the liquid’s velocity. The progression of the water hammer shockwave needs to be detained and slowed before reaching the instrument sensor. SA Gauge manufactures several such devices in order to achieve this.
