A new force in electric motors

4th Quarter 2015 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Launched on the 1st of March, Askari Electric now offers European quality electric motors to the southern African market, with the most competitive pricing in the industry. Hydraulics specialist, Hydromobile has been appointed as a dealer.

Hydromobile is a major importer and exporter of a wide range of high quality hydraulic systems, pumps and valves, with distributors throughout southern Africa. The company also designs, manufactures and installs turnkey hydraulic systems for a variety of applications and has an established footprint in the mining, transport, agriculture, industrial and railways industries.

Hydromobile director, Gert Oosthuizen says, “The Askari motors complement our existing range of hydraulic products. Through our established dealer network we aim to set up a one-stop-shop for our customers and offer them the high quality and outstanding service that Hydromobile is renowned for, at a super-competitive price.”

He adds that in terms of product range Hydromobile initially only offered from 0,37 to 15 kW in various voltages and flange configurations, but as a result of growing demand has increased the range up to 55 kW. Hydromobile has more than doubled anticipated volumes since March and is successfully supplying Askari motors across the border into Africa.

These top quality motors are manufactured in China. The manufacturer distributes over 40% of its output into Europe under various market leading brand names. Hydromobile has been buying electric motors for its own systems – power packs and other hydraulic applications – for over two decades. “Before the 1st of March we didn’t really sell motors over the counter, but we knew that there would always be a demand and that there is no substitute product. We realised how good the Askari brand and quality is and decided to offer it as a standalone product to our entire customer base,” Oosthuizen explains.

An important feature of the motors is that they are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 as well as two European standards. From a customer service point of view another benefit is that all Askari motors are manufactured with a unique serial number to track performance and warranty.

He continues that Hydromobile has seen a gap in the market. Electric motor suppliers fall into two categories. On the one hand there are the large listed multinationals with a big market share and a quality product. On the other hand there are the smaller companies offering entry level motors and selling on price. “We fall in between these. We are small enough to stay close to our customers and also not restricted to external shareholder targets and pressures so we can be a lot more flexible to invest in stock to ensure that we fulfil customer needs. For us every single sale is important,” he says. “Availability of stock is always critical and is another advantage for our customers. We have not been shy to invest in adequate stockholding.”

With years of experience with electric motors, Hydromobile has a unique understanding of the product from an end-user point of view and the company’s services are therefore aligned with customer requirements. Hydromobile services include hydraulic product distribution, design and draughting, powerpack manufacturing, system installation, system flushing and filtration, test bench facilities, oil analysis, system modification and overhaul, as well as hydraulic training. As a specialist manufacturer and repairer in the hydraulics field, the company can add value over and above being just a supplier of the product. “We have catered for all critical spare parts since the product launch. Customers won’t have to wait weeks for spares,” Oosthuizen adds.

“We are offering a quality product backed up by Hydromobile’s renowned customer service, full warranties, fast delivery and a full range of spares. We want Askari to become a household name across all major industries for all automation processes. Going forward, we will continue to develop the market for Askari electric motors through dealers throughout southern Africa in the industrial, manufacturing and mining sectors. We will be looking to build on our success and we will grow our dealer network accordingly,” he concludes.
