BMG’s industrial productivity exhibition, which was recently held at BMG Park, attracted more than 2000 visitors over the two day event. Over 50 of BMG’s global suppliers – including NTN, NSK, Tsubaki, Nord, Varvel, Rexnord, Hallite, Esco, Timken, Fenner and Parker – came to South Africa to participate.
Highlights were the announcement of BMG’s new CEO, Byron Nichles and the celebration of the company’s 40th anniversary milestone. Charles Walters, who has been BMG’s CEO for the past eight years, has been appointed CEO of Invicta Holdings, succeeding Arnold Goldstone who becomes executive deputy chairman. Under Mr Walters’ leadership, BMG’s turnover and profits have increased dramatically – the company currently generates about R4 billion of the Invicta Group’s R10,5 billion revenue a year.
BMG, which has grown dramatically from a single Bearing Man shop established in Durban in 1974, now has over 120 outlets throughout southern Africa and continues to expand on the continent. The company has become Africa’s leading distributor of bearings, seals, power transmission components, electric and geared motors, as well as belting, fasteners, filtration and hydraulics.
Growth at BMG has been organic and through strategic acquisitions. Recent acquisitions have been the purchase of OMSA, leaders in valves, instrumentation, filtration and lubrication products and Man-Dirk, key players in the local tools and equipment sector. The BMG range of pneumatic and hydraulic filtration products and systems now includes Parker motion and control technologies.
