A number of mining haul truck manufacturers utilise GE electric wheel motors on the rear of their haul trucks. Each truck has two wheel motors which contain 40 to 50 litres of synthetic final drive gear oil ranging between 460 and 680 cSt at 40°C. Preventive maintenance requirements are for the final drive oil to be kidney looped with offline filtration during service. This procedure only provides temporary cleanup and protection of wheel components, with contamination levels rising during normal operation. As a result, contamination levels with significant wear debris can rise to unacceptable levels between maintenance intervals, resulting in wearing of components and shortened life of the synthetic lubricant.
The Hydac solution is to install a Hydac OLF 5/4 offline filter, connected into the individual wheel motor lubrication reservoirs in the rear wheel motor housing. The assemblies are rated for up to 7000 cSt and can be installed with varying levels of filtration down to 1 m to provide effective contamination control and reduction of internally generated wear debris. The motor powering the OLF can be converted to the voltage required, with 24 VDC being the current voltage.
After initial cleanup, the wheel motors maintain an acceptable level of oil contamination. This reduces the generation of wear debris and results in extension of fluid life, reduced component wear and increased component life and reliability. The HYDSA OLF 5/4 units can also maintain oil cleanliness on axles with wet brakes, transmissions and gearboxes on large mobile machines.
Hydroformed tube valve body for diaphragm valves
