Schneider’s new growth strategy

2nd Quarter 2014 News & events

Schneider Electric recently held a media forum and networking session where country president, Eric Léger presented the company’s strategy for southern Africa and introduced the new management team. Léger said that after a year Schneider has a flatter organisation based on four principals: more care for its people, more commitment to customers, more investment into its future through its new segment approach and more responsibility to the community. Using South Africa as the hub for expansion, especially in the mining sector, Schneider is aiming to double in size in the southern African region by 2018, with Angola, Zambia and Mozambique being priority countries. Its new 11 000 m² factory will open in Midrand in August.

Members of the management team at the forum, from l: Danie Badenhorst, services sales manager; Mark Marucchi, execution centre director; Eric Léger, country president; Ntombi Mhangwani, marketing and communications director; Bruce Grobler, director, IT business unit; Wilhelm Swart, vice president, mining, metals and minerals.

An important part of the strategy is sustainable development, and Schneider’s BipBop programme is bringing safe, clean electricity to rural communities with no access to electricity through a range of solar home lighting solutions and water pumping systems. Funding of entrepreneurs and the creation of innovative business models and distribution channels are part of the programme.

The acquisition of Invensys has also been a huge step forward and the merging process is in progress. “This has given Schneider a fabulous portfolio of software platforms which are complementary to Schneider," Léger concluded.
