A compact current vector drive

4th Quarter 2013 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Motor control specialist, Varispeed has a complete range of automation products that control, monitor and regulate the speed of standard AC motors and can offer solutions to all VSD and motion control problems. This includes the robust and reliable suite of low and medium voltage AC variable speed drives, servo drives and motors from Yaskawa. Drives from Yaskawa have earned a reputation for performance, functionality and quality and the compact current vector drive, the V1000, continues that legacy.

This is a general purpose compact size inverter drive which covers the demands of a wide field of applications. Installable in narrow spaces, it has maintenance functions that guarantee quick replacement and minimise down time. With a service-free life in excess of 10 years, it meets CE, UL, cUL and RoHS specifications. Communication protocol options include DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, Profibus-DP and Modbus TCP/IP.

Other features of the drive include an extensive power range from fractional to 18,5 kW (up to 4 kW in 230 V single-phase); dual CPUs with a speed scan cycle of 2 ms; embedded Modbus communication up to 115 Kbps; powerful open loop current vector control; programming function block diagrams; and split personality normal duty and heavy duty ratings. The EN954-1 Safety Category 3 safety input to disconnect the motor at the first sign of trouble is standard.

Innovative motor control technology allows the use of both induction motors and synchronous motors with the drive. It is also capable of continuous operation after momentary power failure. The V1000 makes controlling motion easy. It operates with near-servo precision and can save up to 72% in energy usage when used for HVAC air handling duties.
