Booyco Ya Batho puts the brakes on

Other technologies
A speed breaking interlocking (SBI) system suitable for installation on all trackless equipment, including utility vehicles and LHDs, is available from Booyco Ya Batho. This innovative device was developed to warn operators exceeding a set speed limit.
The system gives the operator an audible warning if the maximum speed limit is exceeded. In cases where the first and second audible warnings are ignored, the system automatically takes control of the braking system, bringing the vehicle to a halt. The SBI is a very simple system that is calibrated and commissioned according to individual operation and vehicle requirements. It is also easily adjusted to accommodate increases or decreases in speed limit.
Elvis Mandiwana, operations director at Booyco Ya Batho, says the SBI has been very well received by the mines on which it has been implemented. “We anticipate further demand within all mechanised and semi-mechanised mining operations, particularly since future legislation will enforce the use of this type of system in an increasingly regulated safety environment.
“In keeping with the Booyco Ya Batho strategy on competiveness, this locally manufactured system is affordable, making it possible even for emerging mining companies to acquire the necessary technology to enhance their safety,” he concludes.
