HYDAC’s low noise, energy saving heat exchangers and coolers are utilised in a wide range of applications. A broad selection of air-oil or water-oil brazed coolers, complete with circulation oil pumps and filtration, gives complete cooling solutions as offline kidney systems on hydraulic systems, gear boxes and lubrication systems. Cooling applications include marine, mobile hydraulic systems, stationary industrial hydraulics, machine tools, hydrostatic drives and gear units.
Saving fan drive power
The OK-EL coolers have high efficiency axial fans driven by a motor inverter. This guarantees immediate adjustment to the required cooling performance under changing load conditions and superior cooler durability. Cooling power as a function of fan speed is controlled, depending on the required oil outlet temperature.
The main advantage of this cooler-motor inverter product line is the integration of oil temperature control via proportional fan speed into one compact design. Further advantages are a lower noise level, lower power consumption and a constant output oil temperature. Both return line and off line versions are available.
A newer, quieter range
The AC-LN series is the latest development in the HYDAC air cooler family. With the same dimensions and cooling capacity as the OK-EL coolers, it is more energy efficient, with significantly lower noise and vibration levels. With sizes from 8 to 14 and a wide range of accessories, it is very flexible and can be adapted to a wide range of industrial hydraulic systems. Suitable for both oil and water-glycol coolant fluids, this line will eventually replace the complete OK-EL cooler line. With a cooling capacity of 45 kW, the AC-LN8, is driven by a 0,75 KW electric motor and has a noise level of 65 dB(A) @ 1 m, a noise level similar to an average washing machine.
Less cooling water required
Plate heat exchangers provide excellent heat transfer efficiency combined with compact dimensions and low weight compared to conventional shell and tube type heat exchangers. This reduces the amount of cooling water required for heat transfer, resulting in lower operating costs.
In brazed plate heat exchangers the plates and connections are manufactured from AISI 316 stainless steel and are vacuum brazed with copper. The special moulding of the plates produces the turbulent flow necessary for effective heat transfer and provides a high level of mechanical strength. The turbulent flow of the medium also has a self-cleaning action, reducing contamination on the surfaces.
Typical applications of brazed plate heat exchangers are in reverse flow cooling circuits in machine tools, presses, plastic injection moulding machines, engines, test rigs, generators and general hydraulic applications.
High capacity marine applications
Gasketed plate heat exchangers are a useful supplement to the brazed plate versions and are suitable for higher capacity ranges in industrial, process and marine applications. They can tolerate seawater as a cooling medium.
The gasketed plate heat exchanger consists of a pack of individual, embossed heat transfer plates. The plates are sealed and the media kept separate by gaskets in nitrile rubber. The plate pack is installed in a frame. There are several sizes with different numbers of plates available to cover the capacity range. Depending on the application, special models are available with higher grade materials. Safety heat exchangers are also available. This design ensures that any leak is visible immediately and mixing of the fluids is completely prevented.
Aggressive environments
The MAR (marine) specification air-oil coolers were developed to meet the challenges presented by aggressive environments such as heavy industrial sites or areas with high salinity or air humidity. These require resistance to corrosion and highly durable materials of construction. The marine series is ideally suited to the cooling of generators, gearboxes, inverters, transformers, pumps and hydraulic systems in offshore wind turbines, marine applications, mining equipment, agricultural machines and applications with corrosive environments.
The cooler housings are made of AISI 316 stainless steel covered with a weatherproofed polyester powder coating. This reduces cleaning and maintenance and extends the life of the heat exchanger. The fan support is painted with epoxy. The aluminium electric motors are protection class IP66 and are specially painted for aggressive environments. They have passed the Neutral Salt Spray (NSS) test for 1440 h and the Salt Water Accelerated Test (SWAAT) for 1300 h.
Optimised cooler selection
HYDAC also has available cooler selection programs which can optimise cooler selection for water-oil plate coolers and air-oil coolers.
