Electro hydraulic actuators you can rely on

2nd Quarter 2012 Hydraulic systems & components

In 1997, Hydromobile/Hydrocylinder answered an industry request for the supply of electro hydraulic actuators with the introduction of its range of high quality actuators. Hydrobile/ Hydrocylinder has built its reputation on listening carefully to what its customers need, and developing products that cater to these requirements. Customisation of products is part of the driving business philosophy that goes hand in glove with attention to detail, quality manufacture and excellent customer service.

Popular with the mining industry for use on radial gates, loading boxes, measuring flasks and ventilation doors, over 600 units of these electro hydraulic actuators have been distributed into the market since their launch. The electro hydraulic actuators have a number of winning features but the one that gives the company a very competitive edge is the development of a unique, patented manifold system. This system allows the company to develop and manufacture the actuator according to the required specifications and applications of its customers.

By providing the industry with a non-boxed product that can be tweaked to suit exacting needs, Hydromobile/Hydrocyclinder has become a firm favourite in the market. In consultation with the customer, Hydromobile/Hydrocyclinder will discuss options such as the force to be moved and the speed required; the stroke length; whether manual or automatic control is required; the voltage requirements for the electric motor and closed circuit; the type of cylinder mounting and closed centre required; and whether it should be in a horizontal or vertical mounting orientation.

Tough construction

Available in cast iron or aluminium frames with IP65 protection and the option of spark and flame retardation, all elements of these actuators, including the sealing arrangements, have been designed around the stringent safety requirements of both the mining and industrial sectors. Before dispatch, all actuators are subjected to a 100% pressure test and quality inspection.

The cylinder rods are manufactured from a hard chromed, EN8 mild steel and the cylinder glands are constructed from cast iron to high tolerances, for good wearing capabilities on the rods. The cylinder barrel is made from cold drawn, seamless honed tube and the actuators are painted with an epoxy, primer, intermediate and final coat or any alternative paint specifications, dependent on customer requests.

Focus on operability

The control circuit is available as 12/24/110 and 220 VDC or 110/220 VAC. With pressure capabilities from 5 to 300 bar and flow capabilities of 1,6 up to 30 litres per minute, the actuators offer a high degree of flexibility.

Various stroke, bore diameters and rod diameters can be supplied for varying applications. Available in double acting and single acting versions, the actuators can be designed for normal ‘open’ or ‘close’ operations, position operations and PLC operation. It is possible to lock the actuator in any required position and an emergency closing operation is available on request, with hand pump or accumulator as required. An electric motor forward/reverse action is available, dependent on customer needs.

Hydromobile/Hydrocylinder continues to invest a substantial portion of its time and capital in researching the needs of its target market. By working closely with existing and potential customers, the company is able to identify and design products that are capable of solving industry problems. In this way, the company not only ensures its own sustainability, but also reduces downtime for its customers, while at the same time increasing productivity, customer retention and return on investment tailored towards a mutually beneficial relationship.

How to protect against water hammer
SA Gauge Editor's Choice Hydraulic systems & components
Water hammer is a high-pressure surge or wave created by the kinetic energy of moving fluid when it is rapidly forced to stop or change direction, altering the liquid’s velocity. The progression of the water hammer shockwave needs to be detained and slowed before reaching the instrument sensor. SA Gauge manufactures several such devices in order to achieve this.
