An endless winch

4th Quarter 2011 Other technologies

CMCO Material Handling, formerly Yale Industrial Products, has released the new Yale Mtrac endless winch for the transport of goods and personnel.

The rope is driven through the winch without the need to collect the rope on a reel. This enables unlimited lifting heights or traction lengths. Unlike a drum winch, the wire rope always enters at the same place, thus eliminating undesirable hook movement across the drum and ensuring that rope speed and pulling force remain constant. The endless winch can be used wherever loads have to be lifted and pulled, such as on wagons, mobile scaffolds or windpower stations.

Designed specifically for the transport of material ranging from 500 to 980 kg and passenger elevation from 500 to 1000 kg, it can be used in the vertical or horizontal plane. There is no limit on the length of the steel wire rope that can be accommodated. A special synthetic oil results in quiet running characteristics in a temperature range from -40 to 70°C. Quality engineering is evident in the robust, rigid, low weight, die cast aluminium housing. The drive sheave and pressure rollers are made of a special nitride steel, thereby lengthening the service life. Easily accessible wearing parts make servicing simple.

In an emergency power failure, upward movement with released brake is possible by means of the hand wheel included in the supply. The winch is very versatile and can be adapted to meet individual requirements, either for material moving and lifting or for man riding. In the man riding application, numerous safety features come into play. These include an emergency safety lowering mechanism, an overspeed device and an inclined position safety device.
