Magnetic filtration technology

1st Quarter 2011 Other technologies

BMG Filtration has been appointed as the exclusive local distributor for Canadian magnetic filtration technology specialist, One Eye Industries (OEI).

OEI’s filtration products use rare earth magnetic technology. “They reduce the build-up of particles in filters, resulting in cleaner fuel and lubricants. This contributes to increased productivity and reduced maintenance requirements,” says BMG Filtration general manager Alick Granger.

Based on over a decade of R&D, OEI’s environmentally friendly, re-usable range of filtration products uses a patented magnetic filtration separation technology which incorporates a new generation of rare earth magnets for ferrous contamination control. Non-ferrous contaminants are also attracted through static adhesion. Particles in a range from sub-micron to 200+ microns in size can be extracted in high flow and high viscous applications.

The range includes re-usable filter pads, rods, plugs, cone strainers, y-strainers, inline scrubbers, as well as kidney loop systems. There is also the ADD Vantage 9000 series which can replace disposable filters through a combination of stainless steel screen filters and magnetic filter technology.

The magnetic filter elements are vibration resistant and can operate at full strength in high heat applications up to 150°C. The effective operating life is more than 10 years. They are easy to clean and can easily be retrofitted to existing equipment.

A case study conducted on haul trucks on an Australian coal mine showed significant removal of ferrous material in the coolant fluid. Other equipment at the mine now using OEI products includes dozers with final drive plugs, graders with rods fitted to the tandem drives, filter scrubbers fitted to shovels and dragline gearboxes. All have experienced significant drops in the ISO cleanliness grades and oil change intervals have been extended. Other benefits include lower levels of oil oxidisation and extended component life.
