Altivar Plus

2nd Quarter 2010 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Schneider Electric has announced the local introduction of Altivar 61 Plus and Altivar 71 Plus low-voltage variable speed drives for high power ratings from 90-2400 kW. “Altivar Plus drives are pre-engineered to suit customer requirements saving time during design, quoting and ordering,” explains Helgard Honiball, general manager: Drives Competency Centre at Schneider Electric South Africa. “The drives are factory tested and delivered ready to run, providing savings during installation, commissioning and start-up.”

Both the Altivar 61 Plus and the Altivar 71 Plus are suitable for synchronous or asynchronous motors and have been designed with safety in mind, with integral Cat 3/SIL 2 safety input, as well as an optimised cooling system and components that have been tested at full-load operating conditions. The Altivar 61 Plus is ideal for fans, pumps and compressors, while the Altivar 71 Plus is has been optimised for conveyor belts, mixers, extruders and lifting gear. These enclosed drive solutions complete the well known Altivar 61 and Altivar 71 ranges, offering performance at high power ratings.

“The drives combine exceptional performance and advanced functionality while maintaining the emphasis on simplicity of use,” explains Honiball. “The products are adaptable to the application and ready for system integration. They also meet all protection requirements to ensure that equipment operates correctly, particularly when sited close to the motor.”

The Altivar 61/71 Plus range is well suited for use in harsh environmental conditions and all drives are equipped with components to reduce harmonics. Depending on the local requirements and power range, these can take the form of a line reactor, DC choke, 12/18/24 pulse rectification, passive filtering or active compensation.
