Drive has high velocity loop bandwith

2nd Quarter 2009 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Claimed by the manufacturer to be the first all-digital industrial drive with a velocity loop bandwidth of 800 Hz, the Danaher Motion S200 servo drive is a compact high performance servo drive. The high resolution (24-bit) feedback and high performance (3–5 kHz) current loop bandwidth provide smooth motion and rapid response to optimise machine performance and throughputs.

The intelligent feedback device with electronic motor nameplate allows plug-and-play commissioning by eliminating the need for drive parameter set-up and servo loop tuning in most applications. User-selectable drive modes include torque and velocity control and electronic gearing. For feedback the drive can accept an analog reference input of up to 18-bit precision and has an encoder equivalent output. The S200 family includes options to support either Indexing or SynQnet-based programmable motion control.

Typical applications for this drive include semiconductor fabrication, electronic assembly, packaging, medical, and woodworking equipment.

The S200 is available for AC (120/240 VAC) and DC (20–90 VDC) operation with current ratings from 1,5 A rms continuous to 48 A rms peak. This means that this single drive family can be deployed throughout an entire machine or machines. The compact drive meets UL 508C, CE, EN50178, EN61800-C and Semi F47 Standards. It has provision for a separate 'Keep Alive' power input, allowing rapid recovery from emergency stop conditions.

The new graphical user interface (GUI) uses a 'Windows Explorer' style of tree structure to expedite and simplify set up.

For system integration there are optional CANopen or DeviceNet position control interfaces, and the embedded Modbus protocol means that the drive can be directly connected to many operator interface panels, PLCs and scada systems.
