Dryer protects pneumatic applications

Fourth Quarter 2008 Pneumatic systems & components

With the escalating cost of energy, time, spare parts and consumables, it is increasingly important to protect pneumatic applications from compressed air contamination.

Compressed air contaminants can be classified into three main types:

* Water – extracted by the compressor from the atmosphere.

* Oil – introduced by the compressor.

* Solid particles – such as dust, soot, salt crystals, pollens and hydrocarbons, 80% of which are smaller than 2 microns.

Failure to effectively remove compressed air contaminants results in:

* Blocking of orifices and reduced clearances between moving parts.

* Wearing out of seals and surfaces, resulting in leaks.

* The fouling of heat transfer surfaces.

* Reduced efficiency of pneumatic automation and tools.

* Increased energy costs.

* Unnecessary loading of compressors, shortening service life.

* Product spoilage.

* Downtime.

Donaldson’s Ultrapac 2000 heatless adsorption dryer systems are designed to effectively and affordably remove all three contaminant types and are ideal for point-of-use applications within a plant.

This series of dryers offers a pressure dewpoint of -40°C and is suitable for flow rates ranging from 85 to 1640 lpm (3 to 58 cfm). Straightforward design and service kits enable routine maintenance to be carried out by untrained personnel.
