Expansion interface protects pumps
Fourth Quarter 2007
Other technologies
CHI Control Components has just released an expansion interface for use with its popular Aucom CSXi series of compact soft starters. The Pump Application Interface has been developed in response to demand for more input and output functionality, particularly in pumping situations.
The interface has three digital inputs which can be directly connected to external inputs such as pressure switches, flow switches, limit switches or PLC outputs, and one PT100 input which can be connected directly to a temperature sensor. The PT100 temperature trip point is selectable and the pressure and low water inputs offer a configurable trip delay, allowing precise control of the soft starter in response to a wide variety of operating conditions. When an input activates, the soft starter stops the motor and signals a trip, allowing straightforward monitoring via a PLC or serial communication network.
The expansion interface has been designed for pumping applications but can also be used without modification on any application where greater control and feedback are required. Easy to install and configure, it is housed in a compact casing which clips directly onto the side of CSXi soft starters. The interface is powered through the soft starter's serial port and no additional software or special tools are required for installation.
