ABB has signed a frame contract with Bombardier worth more than US$30 m to supply traction transformers for 172 new trains that will upgrade commuter travel in the heavily congested Ile-de-France region around Paris. ABB's compact units were chosen because a new wide-body carriage design and extra seating put severe restrictions on the size and weight of the transformers used. Traction transformers are mounted on trains to ensure power supply to the motors, and since there is no back-up system due to limited space, they must be failsafe.
Bosch Rexroth is working with the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Bureau of Sanitation, to study the benefits of hydraulic hybrid technology in its refuse truck fleet. The project involves Bosch Rexroth's proprietary hydrostatic regenerative brake (HRB) system, which captures a vehicle's braking energy and converts it to energy for propulsion. As a first step, two American LaFrance, LLC Condor liquid natural gas (LNG) trucks in the city's fleet will be outfitted with vehicle data acquisition systems to monitor real-world operating conditions. New West Technologies, LLC is analysing the data and providing Bosch Rexroth with the truck duty cycle data for the refuse fleet.

The USA has adopted the International standard for the construction of robots - ANSI/RIA/ISO 10218-1-2007. This new standard deals only with the construction features of the robot and does not replace the current ANSI/RIA R15.06-1999. This adoption is considered an 'identical' national adoption of an international standard, ISO 10218-1:2006, hence the ISO number has been retained along with the title - Robots for Industrial Environment - Safety Requirements Part 1 - Robot. The ISO Project Team is continuing its work on the development of the ISO 10218 Part 2 - Robot system and integration.
