Applied Pneumatics is the authorised distributor in sub-Sahara Africa for the Enidine (an IMC Company) range of energy absorption and vibration isolation products specifically designed for general industry, materials handling, steel, rail and aviation/defence industries. The range consists of industrial shock absorbers, rate controls, air springs, compact/wire-rope isolators and many more products to suit specific application needs.
In the industrial market, the most commonly used products are the hydraulic shock absorbers, rate controls, compact and wire ropes.
Hydraulic shock absorbers are used to safely decelerate any moving component thereby reducing shock and vibration, resulting in greater productivity with less downtime. The 'OEM' type shock can be used in pneumatic rodless cylinders as a cushioning device to provide a smooth, even deceleration. In the printing and paper industry, they are used to assist in paper positioning and to prevent damage during printing press test runs. They are also used in the automotive industry in various applications including robotics. The applications are numerous.
A common rate control application is on self-feed drill presses. The 'ADA' type rate control is used to feed the rate of a pneumatic drill for a smoother effect and at the same time extending the life of the drill bit.
Compact and wire ropes are used instead of the more conventional elastomeric type mounting blocks. Correctly sized, they completely isolate any kind of vibration. Recently, applied pneumatics assisted the CSIR to solve a vibration problem involving sensitive electronic equipment on a high speed seagoing boat using special stainless steel wire ropes. The smaller compact wire ropes are used in the electronic and computer industry to isolate vibration on hard disks and insensitive electronic control system.
For the materials handling industry, the heavy-duty industry buffer for crane and emergency applications are offered. This range includes the new custom-built Jarret buffer, which makes use of 'visco-elastic' silicone type technology to deliver optimum energy absorption under the harshest conditions. Two 'HI' or 'HD' type buffers are mounted on either end of an overhead or stacker crane to reduce damage and injury caused by runaway cranes.
The steel industry uses the Jarret buffer in rolling mill chock separators for automatic, rapid roll changing.
Enidine Rail Products, formerly the Houdaille/Vibratech Company, concentrates solely on train suspension damping and track/signalling devices. This range includes rotary and telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers, friction snubbers and air springs, which are used to replace the conventional coil spring for a better ride quality.
Enidine's Defence and Aviation division also offers custom-built products for aircraft interiors, seat controls, fighter aircraft, top- side/sea sub, gun and missile systems and land vehicles.
Midland Pneumatics & Alcon (also an IMC Company) offers an extensive range of stainless steel and brass pneumatic components specially designed for process control in industries such as petrochemical and in offshore gas and oil applications. The product range includes solenoid valves, cylinders and air service units. Various medium can be used through the Midland solenoid valves including compressed air, sweet and sour gasses, inert gas, low pressure hydraulics, mineral oil, and water. Solenoid valves can be supplied with standard moulded coils, flameproof coils or intrinsically safe coils.
