Filtration solution addresses new industries

First Quarter 2005 Other technologies

Proving that its filtration expertise is not constrained to the manufacturing and water treatment industries, automation specialist Hytec has recently supplied various complete filtration systems to local paper mills and aluminium plants. Comprising a filter housing fitted with cleanable, stainless steel slotted tube strainers, the Hytec filtration solution comes with a control system, as well as a complete back washing system.

"This system is so easy to install that it is almost plug-and-play," says Olaf Voigt, Hytec Fluid Technology product specialist. "The same is true for maintenance - each unit is opened up once a year for a visual inspection and replacement of two small bushes and then it is closed again. The systems that we have installed in South Africa have been functioning problem-free for several years now. Due to the system being self-cleaning, the requirement for additional labour and maintenance is done away with and the customer has piece of mind that their quality in their water requirements is taken care of."

"In most cases, the customer is experiencing a high contamination loading which causes their system not to function properly and causes production loss or quality problems," he explains. "We would then take a water sample and have it analysed in terms of the total solids loading and determine what optimum filtration is required to let their system run efficiently. From thereon, we size the filter system accordingly and the proposal goes for approval by their technical committee.

The projects that we have done lately range between R300 000 to R500 000 and have proven our ability for delivering a complete solution, often with the assistance of specialists suppliers, such as Hydac," says Voigt. The picture shows the new self-cleaning Hydac automatic back-flushing filter (AutoFilt RF30, which forms part of Hytec Fluid Technology's filtration solution.
