In order to stay abreast of the latest advances in the industry, Hyflo is always on the lookout for technical breakthroughs that will benefit the company and its clients. It has therefore included GS-Hydro in its large number of sole agencies. With operations in more than 25 countries, GS-Hydro is a world leader in non-welded piping technologies and is a global supplier of complete, non-welded piping solutions. Founded in Finland in 1974, it was a natural choice for Hyflo to bring to the South African market.
GS-Hydro’s technology for connecting pipes is based on flanges and pipe-end preparation machines, designed and developed in-house. The company manufactures a wide range of flanges which are used to create extremely robust joints that can withstand the high pressures encountered in hydraulic and other high pressure piping applications.
The GS-Hydro piping system consists of two innovative flange systems – the flare flange and retain ring systems – which allow piping systems with working pressures from 10 to 690 bar and pipe diameters between 16 and 600 mm to be assembled without welding.
Since only high quality seamless piping is used for the GS-Hydro systems, bending of all the piping is carried out using specialised pipe benders, and no welding is required for tight 90° bends, even in large bore piping up to 600 mm. With the absence of welding the GS-Hydro piping system is inherently clean, as well as flexible, fast and easy to install. The system is environmentally friendly as there is no need for chemical cleaning and no hazardous waste to dispose of. The technology therefore offers a higher quality and more cost-efficient alternative to welded piping systems.
In order to make these systems available in South Africa, Hyflo has invested in the equipment necessary to carry out these piping installations, and currently has the ability to bend and flare piping up to 90 mm in-house. Hyflo is also capable of total piping system delivery, which covers everything from engineering, 3D general assembly drawings, a complete delivery of all materials and components, and prefabrication, through to onsite services including installation, flushing, testing, startup and commissioning. Customised, prefabricated piping modules consisting of pipes and tubes, and piping components such as fittings and flanges, are delivered to customers ready to be installed.
The piping components and accessories includes all necessary parts of a complete piping system – pipes, tubes, valves, fittings, connectors, flanges, clamps and hoses. Hyflo will also provide a complete documentation package. The documentation covers installation and assembly manuals, all necessary test reports and material certificates, as well as approvals from classification authorities.
GS Hydro carries the ISO 9001 quality system approval and has type approval for all major third-party inspection authorities, including DNV, LR, GL, ABS and BV amongst others. In addition, GS-Hydro holds a certificate conforming to the European Marine Equipment Directive (MED) and the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED).
According to Hyflo, the system will be of benefit to its ever-growing client base as this piping solution cuts traditional piping costs and reduces installation time dramatically. A further benefit is that no hot-work is used and therefore no gas-freeing is required, and pickling and passivating is also not required. These piping systems can be used in most high or low pressure systems where welded installations pose a problem.
