Flowmeters, alarms and hydraulic flow transmitters have long been part of system design and monitoring of hydraulic performance. The Lake Monitors series of hydraulic flowmeters and related pneumatic components is now available from the United States-based AW-Lake Company. Founded in 1989, AW-Lake manufactures in-house and is renowned for its high quality, low cost flow monitoring products that can be utilised in either compressed gas or liquid systems to ensure proper volumetric flow rates of coolants, purge gases and lubricants. Successfully serving the fluid power, flow control and processing markets, Lake Monitors offers a distinct advantage over the competition. To this effect Hydromobile has added the Lake Monitors series of products under its vast umbrella of hydraulic components and equipment, resulting in an even more comprehensive offering to its customers.
With the continuous technological advances and demand for technical information within the hydraulic industry, hydraulic flowmeters, alarms and transmitters are becoming standard within the design and building of power packs and other hydraulically operated systems. Hydromobile has recognised that as the various industries within southern Africa continue to adapt to these technological improvements, the need for specific technical data will become ever more important in determining the efficiency and optimal operating parameters for hydraulic systems. As such the hydraulic oil flow and related characteristics measurement will follow suit. These measurement instrumentation are destined to become a ‘must have’ in every hydraulic workshop and large power pack installation.
As a diagnostic tool, the basic in-line flowmeter saves technicians significant time with respect to basic fault finding within an hydraulic system and thereby realises an immediate and lasting efficiency in any hydraulic workshop. Flow alarms and transmitters can provide continuous information on system performance and any deviations outside of customised set parameters that will provide data indicative of a compromised system. The use of these devices can aid in the early detection of potential component failure and prevention of progressive system damage, realising an ongoing reduction in maintenance and repair cost to the user.
The Lake Monitors’ units are designed to cater for flow rates up to 560 l/min and high temperature environments up to 315°C. The magnetically coupled follower and rigid pressure vessel design allow operation up to a pressure of 410 bar in its stainless steel casing – which falls within the ambit of most hydraulic systems and thereby making it a universal range to cater for most industries. A sharp-edged stainless steel orifice provides excellent measurement stability for viscosities from 0 to 500 SSU, while the range of accuracy is ±2,5% of range in the centre third of the scale and ±4% in the upper and lower thirds. Unrestricted mounting allows for vertical, horizontal or inverted installation, while the rugged, reliable construction allows the units to withstand outdoor and exposed applications and frequent maintenance wash-downs, providing years of maintenance-free performance. Basic in-line monitors are also available in bi-directional and reverse flow options.
Within its first month of promoting the Lake Monitors’ product series, Hydromobile identified and realised opportunities to supply top-end high performance stainless steel units in the petroleum sector and municipal water affairs, both on major hydraulic plant installations.
Commonly used products are available directly off the shelf, whilst product for a specific use in a customised environment can be specified with the assistance of its in-house technical staff and sourced within a couple of weeks.
With this kind of versatility, Hydromobile is able to service a wide variety of industries with its established footprint in the mining, transport, agricultural, industrial and railway sectors.
