3rd Quarter 2014
News & events
Sparrow FET College based in Sophiatown has launched a new MERSETA accredited qualification. Pirtek is funding 16 students from the first intake and will provide workplace experience – a pivotal requirement for their completion of the programme. The Fluid Power Hose Assemblies programme, with standards at NQF level 2 and 3, is a full time bursary programme extended over a period of six months. Students will spend the first half of their training covering the intensive theoretical component, with practical training in the simulated workshop on campus. In the last three months, students will be placed in Pirtek workshops to gain all-important workplace experience before being certified as competent. The qualification will equip students with the skills required to make up hydraulic hose assemblies, identify and select the correct fittings, read and interpret basic fluid power engineering drawings and maintain safe working procedures.
The introduction of this exciting skills programme gathered various industry experts, media and other stakeholders. The launch highlighted the benefits of industry partnering with training providers. The Fluid Power Hose Assemblies skills programme is answering the skills need within the hydraulic hose industry. “The partnership is beneficial for both the industry and Pirtek. We need qualified, skilled people,” said Kieron Goss, managing director of Pirtek.
