Laser sensors are able to detect very small objects, or their minimal shifts, thanks to the extremely reduced light beam diameter. Laser retroreflex sensors offer a long operating distance which is accomplished with a visible red emission (necessary for the polarisation filters) and high gain. An advantage of the laser's narrow beam is the possibility to pass through holes or slits (bigger than the beam diameter) which may be present between the sensor and the reflector.
The use of polarised retroreflex sensors can be found in a broad range of industries, but the narrow light beam, short response time and high switching frequency are mostly requested for very fast machinery and small object packaging (ie, pharmaceutical or cosmetics), the automatic assembly of small electronic components or mechanical parts, machine tools or metal stamping die precision positioning, small part sorting or counting and high speed and high precision presence control.
The S62-PL-5-B01 model from Datasensor is a laser polarised retroreflex sensor able to reach 20 m, maintaining a good beam collimation in order to offer high resolution for small target detection, even at the longest distances. The sensor incorporates a trimmer setting for sensitivity adjustment and has a response time of below 0,20 ms and switching frequency of up to 2,5 kHz.

To use AI responsibly and effectively, you need at least a basic understanding of how they work and where they can fail. Generative AI then becomes a powerful assistant; without it, you are effectively ‘prompting and praying’, exposing yourself to errors and professional embarrassment.
