Multispiral hose has higher working pressure
Second Quarter 2007
Other technologies
For the last 30 years underground installations in the South African mining sector have used an SAE 100R12 grey multispiral hose in order for operators to easily distinguish these hoses from braided hydraulic hose which are black. This SAE 100R12 multispiral hose has served the mining sector well, but generally at a lower working pressure than that which is now being required by industry.
Genflex Hydraulics of Alrode South, Gauteng is introducing to the South African market a new, stronger, grey multispiral hose, the DIN8564SP to accommodate these greater working pressures.
Examples of the differences in pressure rating are set out in the table:
David Michelle, director at Genflex says: "Genflex will have 6000 metres of the DIN8564SP hose available in South Africa, for the first time, from mid-May 2007. There is no change to the design of the hose fittings or to the collars used. There is a slight change of swage diameters when assembling this heavier-duty multispiral hose.
"The Genflex brand will be printed in red along with the relevant specifications and working pressures. The cost of these new multispiral hoses remains unchanged. The hose comes in 20 metre rolls," Michelle concluded.
