During January, Allen Carlson, president of Sun Hydraulics, visited its authorised South African distributor, Axiom Hydraulics to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their business relationship.
Carlson commented: "During these 15 years Sun has seen many changes in the fluid power market place and we have responded to better serve our customers and to take advantages of the opportunities presented to grow our business.
"We are pleased to have been affiliated with Axiom over the past 15 years. We look forward to the future and the endless possibilities to assist Axiom and its customers in South Africa."
When the partnership with Axiom was formed in 1992, Sun was a small privately held company with sales primarily in North America. Today, it is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ exchange (SNHY) with more than half of its sales outside the USA.
Carlson went on to explain Sun's focus and direction: "From the beginning, Sun was a cartridge valve company that primarily focused on pressure regulation and load holding. This is still a focus and to a large degree what we have built our reputation on. However, in the past five years we have added many electrically actuated cartridges and this has taken us into new markets with an increased emphasis on 'package systems'. And this month, we launched a range of 'next generation' electro-hydraulic products at the Hanover Fair in Germany."
When asked about his visit, Carlson commented: "This is my first visit to South Africa. My impression is of a country that is determined to move forward, to prosper and wanting to address the issues that constrain the future. South Africa is a country with an abundance of natural resources, unlimited potential and natural beauty."
