Locally manufactured solenoid slide valves
Fourth Quarter 2004
Other technologies
Ongoing automation in the South African industry and mining sectors has developed a need for a well-priced, reliable high-flow valve as an alternative to imported equipment. The Ernest Lowe solenoid slide valve will cover all functions required for automation and was developed specifically for local conditions.
The slide valve, a robust, proven model supplied to the mining and manufacturing industries for over 18 years, has been coupled with a solenoid of local design and manufacture - said to be the first of its kind in South Africa. Mainly used for large bore-size cylinders, the slide valve has few wearing parts and a reputation for toughness and endurance.
The solenoid design relies on simplicity to ensure high effectiveness and a long working life, allowing Ernest Lowe to manufacture a robust, enduring solenoid valve tailor-made for highly demanding South African conditions. The solenoid valves can be supplied in all voltages, as well as low wattage for direct computer control.
Manufactured in cast iron with 1-inch ports and a high flow rate, the solenoid's SGI casting is nitrided for rust protection and wear resistance. Local manufacture to strict Norgren standards ensures that competitive pricing is coupled with absolute quality, making the local model available at substantially less than imported versions. To date, the Ernest Lowe solenoid has been tested to 3 million cycles (and counting) and is already making an impression on the mining market.
