New range of electrical motion solutions

Third Quarter 2005 Electrical switching & drive systems & components

Tectra Automation is offering a new motion product package, IndraMotion, which is manufactured by the Rexroth Bosch Group and incorporates several new components, like the updated Indradyn motor range, PLC 20/40 and the VCP entry-level human machine interface (HMI).

The updated Rexroth Indradyn motor range, features a comprehensive solution that retains the robust, functional nature of the previous range. The offering ranges from the Indradyn S synchronised servomotor for normal or explosion-proof applications of up to 230 Nm to the Indradyn A, air or liquid-cooled asynchronous servo motors for loads of between 85 and 100 kW. Speeds range from 500 to 11 000 rpm and the synchronised linear motor is specified to handle as much as 21,5 kN. The new range is marked by a multitude of configurable options that satisfies the requirements of a vast array of diverse applications. Ease of use and improved maintenance will serve to further boost the popularity of this range of motion products.

The IndraControl L40 is a modular and scalable control unit that combines the benefits of an embedded-PC architecture with a standardised I/O system with terminals. It is a universal hardware platform that can be used for motion-logic and PLC applications and the hardware is available in system specific versions (eg, with/without SERCOS interface).

It provides onboard interfaces, eg, high-speed inputs and outputs (eight each) and communication interfaces, such as Ethernet, Profibus, RS232 and SERCOS. Via the integrated PCI bus, additional modules permit extension of the IndraControl L40 by additional fieldbus and technology interfaces, such as DeviceNet and master-axis-encoder interfaces. The locally available I/O units can be extended by the Rexroth Inline I/O system, just by simply mounting the components side by side. Application programs, including runtime, are completely stored to an easily accessible standardised Compact Flash medium.

Control elements and interfaces are arranged on the front of the control unit, with an eight-digit display linked to four operator keys and a LED-lit reset button. On the sides there is an RS232 interface and the receptacle for the Compact Flash card, while other interfaces like Ethernet, Profibus DP, SERCOS and Ready Contact are located in the central section.

The unit can accommodate eight electrically isolated digital inputs as well as eight electrically isolated digital outputs. In contrast to the IndraControl L20 entry-level unit, the IndraControl L40 is supplied with a nominal 24 V d.c. -15%/+20% (without residual ripple).

VEH30, HT06 and VCP HMI terminals are available for use with the IndraMotion package for handling systems, allowing users to program user programs, teaching and defining points, as well as normal operational commands. As an alternative, a PC can be used as the HMI terminal in place of a dedicated HMI device.

With the different hardware configuration of the IndraControl L40 or IndraControl L20 it is possible to connect the Rexroth drive systems IndraDrive, EcoDrive or EcoDrive CS via Profibus. The IndraMotion MLC communicates via SERCOS with the drives. The HT06 is also connected via Profibus, whereas the user interfaces on the VEH30 or PC communicate via Ethernet and OPC-mechanisms. The VCP series of HMI terminals are among the most cost-effective units available and should see the uptake of these components increase significantly.

The picture shows the IndraControl L40, a modular and scalable control unit that combines the benefits of an embedded-PC architecture with a standardised I/O system with terminals.
